April 26, 2008: Elis takes us out on Lake McMurray

5:10 AM at Elis' house: it's 34°, yikes! We drove a few miles to Lake McMurray on Highway 9, just inside the south end of Skagit County. Even though our fingers were freezing, it was clear and mild. Lots of birds were looking for fish and bugs. An eagle harassed an osprey and we saw the glint of a silvery fish skydiving. We all caught our limits and we were off the lake by 8:30 AM. Here's how we ate them: cut the heads and tails off the fresh trout. Salt & pepper the inside and stuff in some lemon slices. Sizzle in a skillet with some EVOO for several minutes on each side. Carefully turn them, only once. :) |
