The Tardiff family traces its roots to Olivier LeTardif of Brittany, France. Olivier was born about 1601 and died in Quebec about 1664. Our family decends from Olivier through his son Guillame, to Charles, Charles Francois, Raphael, Ambroise, Louis (died in Durham, Maine). Those attending the reunion in Turner, Maine are descendents of either Louis Jr. or Gustave Tardiff. The Tardiff's and their families can now be found in several states, including Texas, Washington, Pennsylvania and Illinois to name a few. The Tardiff's of my immediate family are now maintaining a tradition of family reunions on every odd year. Gustave and Lottie Stinchfield Tardiff had 10 children between them. They lived on the Tardiff family farm at the bend of Snow Road in Durham, Maine. Life was hard for the Tardiff children, growing up during the depression.
Margaret, the oldest daughter of Lottie, was raised by her Aunt in Freeport. She married Wesley Turner and has one daughter, Glenda. They moved to Seattle, Washington in the early 1950's. Morris, the oldest son of Lottie, left home first. He married Ruby Ethel Taylor in El Campo, Texas. Their children are Burr (Morris Jr.), and Kay Ellen. Morris passed away before Kay Ellen was born. Gustave & Lottie's oldest daughter Helen married Arthur Clifford of Auburn, Maine and they moved to Seattle, Washington in 1952. Their children are Arthur Jr., Alan, Linda and Joyce (me). The 4th child, Gustave "Joe" married Glennis Lake and their 4 children are twins Cynthia & Craig, Peter, and Cathy. Joe passed away in 1996. Charles married Violet Marrtucci of Chicago. They raised their children Lester, Jeannine and Dannielle around Philadelphia. Charlie died in 1996, the same year as Joe. Louise married Alton Murchison and lived in Bangor with their children Gail, Gary and Ellen. Louise passed away about 2 years ago. Lillian married Eddie Caron. She was once the Mayor of Lewiston. Their children are Lottie, Victor, Jane and Theresa. Aunty Lil passed away in 1995. Lawrence moved to Chicago and married Carole Reinhardt. Their children are Susan and Kathy. Larry passed away in 1975. Charlotte married Frank Walton and now lives in Lisbon. Their children are Patricia, Frank and David. Lester never married as he died in 1959 at the young age of 23. He was the first Tardiff child to have diabetes. Of the 10 children, only 3 are still living today: the oldest 2 girls Margaret and Helen, and the youngest girl, Charlotte.
